A cyber policy can combine first-party response costs with third-party liability after a covered breach, ransomware event, system interruption, or cybercrime loss.

Please use the form for initial information only. We will guide secure next steps when more detail is needed.

Who it is for

Businesses that store personal data, accept electronic payments, depend on computer systems, use cloud vendors, transfer funds, or could be disrupted by ransomware or a privacy event.

What matters before you compare

  • Cyber policies vary widely; review both first-party and third-party coverage
  • Security controls such as MFA, backups, patching, and endpoint protection affect eligibility
  • Social engineering, funds transfer, ransomware, waiting periods, sublimits, and vendor incidents need specific review

Common coverages and policy features

Exact coverage depends on the policy form, limits, deductibles, endorsements, exclusions, and carrier approval. These explanations are educational and do not replace the policy contract.

Incident Response and Forensics

Helps pay eligible specialists to investigate, contain, and document a covered cyber incident, often through the insurer’s approved response panel.

Breach Notification and Credit Monitoring

Helps with eligible legal review, required notices, call-center services, and credit or identity monitoring after a covered privacy breach.

Business Interruption

May reimburse covered lost income and extra expense when a qualifying cyber event interrupts systems beyond the policy’s waiting period.

Data and System Restoration

Helps pay eligible costs to restore or recreate damaged data, software, or systems after a covered attack, subject to valuation and betterment rules.

Cyber Extortion and Cybercrime

May cover eligible ransomware response, extortion payments, social-engineering fraud, or funds-transfer loss. These often have separate sublimits, conditions, and security requirements.

Privacy and Network Liability

Helps defend and pay covered third-party claims or regulatory proceedings alleging failure to protect data, network security, or privacy rights.

Commercial Cyber: Frequently asked questions

Is cyber insurance only for technology companies?

No. Retailers, professional firms, healthcare providers, contractors, nonprofits, and other businesses can face ransomware, payment fraud, privacy, and system-interruption losses.

What is first-party versus third-party cyber coverage?

First-party coverage addresses your own response, restoration, extortion, interruption, and cybercrime costs. Third-party coverage addresses claims and regulatory matters brought against the business.

Does cyber insurance cover ransomware?

It may cover response, negotiation, restoration, interruption, and in some cases an extortion payment, subject to legality, consent, sanctions screening, sublimits, and security conditions.

Is fraudulent wire transfer covered?

Only if the policy includes the applicable cybercrime, funds-transfer, or social-engineering coverage. Definitions and sublimits vary, and voluntary transfer exclusions can be significant.

What security controls may be required?

Carriers commonly ask about multi-factor authentication, backups, endpoint protection, patching, email security, employee training, remote access, and incident-response planning.

Are cloud-provider outages covered?

Some policies include dependent business interruption for qualifying technology providers, often with a separate waiting period, list of providers, limit, or sublimit.

Are regulatory fines covered?

Some policies cover defense and legally insurable fines or penalties for a covered privacy event. Insurability depends on the law and policy wording.

Does general liability cover cyber losses?

Do not rely on it. Modern general-liability and property policies may exclude or narrowly limit electronic data, privacy, and cyber events. Dedicated cyber coverage is designed for these exposures.

Does submitting the form create a policy?

No. The form starts the review. Coverage exists only after the carrier approves the risk, the terms are accepted, payment requirements are met, and the effective date is confirmed.

How does TerraBridge help with this decision?

TerraBridge gathers the initial context, checks markets available for commercial cyber insurance, and explains relevant coverages, limits, deductibles, and tradeoffs. Final approval and issuance remain subject to carrier underwriting.

Insurance products are subject to underwriting approval, carrier availability, eligibility, terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions. Submitting a request does not bind coverage, guarantee a quote, or create an insurance policy. Coverage is only effective when confirmed by the applicable carrier or authorized platform.
